I was a good citizen on Thurday. I had an appointment up in Masterton and happened to notice the blood bank were there, so I stopped in to donate. I haven’t donated for quite a few years, due to things like surgery, pregnancy, breastfeeding etc, so I felt pleased to be able to give some blood. Having had a transfusion in the past I really know how important it is.
Unfortunately for me, I gave a litte too much and managed to bleed all over my nice white work shirt. Bugger.
The blood bank were nice enough to give me one of the t-shirts they give to frequent donators.
So, if you get a chance and fit the criteria, give some blood!

Thanks for the reminder – I used to give regularly but they don’t actually make it easy here in NZ unless the mobile unit happens to come to my neighbourhood, which it hasn’t for ages. It’s worth making a trip for though! One of the last times I gave I sprung a leak about half way through which wasn’t a big deal but it sure looked gory! Unfortunately there was a first-timer just being led along to a bed as the nurse was trying to get things sorted and I really hope I didn’t put the person off permanently what with the blood all over and the frantic nurse!
I wish I could, but age, medication and super crappy veins make it near impossible, but I did donate and even got your brother to donate and he still does.
I think you were there at the same time as my Mum. She gave blood on thursday and said someone bleed all over their shirt without noticing to start with… Was that you I wonder ?
It’s such a small world.
I love the shirt they gave you!
Thanks for the reminder. I think I should start making appointments to give blood in advance, rather than waiting for the stars to align and ‘the right moment’ to happen- when does that happen with a 3yo and 5yo?
Good work
