Happy New Year!

To all my fantastic readers, friends and family who come over here to read and sometimes comment, I hope 2012 is a fantastic year for us all.  I wanted to say thanks for all your comments, I read everyone one and I apologise when I’m too lazy to reply to any of them, rest assured they are much appreciated.

Today I finished block number 25 for the “Love” quilt.  It might even be my favourite block yet :-)

After mucking about a bit I managed to get the skull quilt sandwiched and ready to quilt tomorrow.  It was hard to find enough space on the floor to lay the quilt out, as Cam got additions for his train set for Christmas so he’s taken over the lounge (he has a very small bedroom).  Quilting day for me tomorrow!

Happy New Year

Merry Christmas :-)

Phew, I’m glad all the stress of Christmas is over. Sometimes it just seems like so much hassle.  We’ve unanimously decided that instead of present next Christmas we’ll try to save for a family holiday (maybe Sydney).  The big kids’ are keen on that :-)

I managed to get a wee bit of sewing time in.  I’ve finished blocks 21, 22, 23 and 24 for our”Love ” quilt.  I’ve made it a priority to get this finished before April if I can.  I’m going to be batting this with wool and backing it with “Love” flannel so it will be extra warm and cosy for the coming winter. Just one block left to make then I will be cutting sashing, borders and binding.

One of the great presents I got for Christmas was a new camera, it’s nice to be able to take pics again without a big black spot in the middle of the camera :-)

Hope everyone had a great Christmas etc, I’m back to work tomorrow :-( No proper leave for me till at least April.

2011 in quilts…

Well I never thought I’d end up making more quilts this year than last, but I did.  25 last year including some mini’s, 36 this year plus 2 mini quilts and lots of quilt blocks, cushions and other stuff.  Not much in the last 2 or 3 months though.

I’m a bad citizen

It’s official.

Yesterday, after 20 years of driving, I got my first ever ticket. :-(

My own stupidity and impatience really.  I went through a level crossing while the lights were on.

No, I was not racing a train.  The train was about 500-600m away and parked at the station.  I got bored waiting and drove on, unlucky for me the car behind me was an unmarked police car :-0.  Bugger.  So I got pulled over.  I have to laugh though the cop bleated on about it being dangerous etc, but he had time to follow me, pull me over, tell me off, take all my details and checked that the car was warranted and registered and then the train finally went past.

So, My Bad.

How cute??

is this boy?  Cam got to go to a Christmas Party this afternoon (while I worked) and got his face painted.  It was so cute.  I think I have a pic of his big brother (who’s 21 today, Happy Birthday Matt) with the same tiger face.

ETA. here’s Matt at almost the same age :-)

A finish!

I’m so pleased to have finished the Star Trek quilt in time to be posted before Christmas.  I was worried for a while that I wouldn’t make my deadline and I HATE being late for anything.  I wanted to bind it in a red and black pattern, but couldn’t get any fabric the right colour so I ended up using a black with soft grey stars on it (hard to see in the pics), I think it works well and softens the harsh look of the quilt a bit.

This quilt was such a fabulous challenge for me.  When I took on the commission I though I would just be able to buy some Star Trek prints and knock up a very easy quilt.  Little did I know that you can’t get Star Trek fabric and that I would have to use my brain a bit for this one. It was great for me to see such a great quilt at the end and to be pushed out of my comfort zone a wee bit.  Thanks Kylie for the commission and challenge.

So proud of my girl :-)

Lilly worked really hard most of the year and was able to achieve 83% of available credits and pass the school year with Merit.  I’m so proud of her!  I’m even more proud of her involvement in school activities like the Model UN, Soccer and other school groups.  I can’t wait to see what great things happen for Lilly next year.

I’m proud of my boys too :-)   Nathan applied for job at the school (after school work) and got his letter of offer for that today.  So nice to see him in employment :-) , it’s only an hour a week to start with, but you have to start somewhere.  I can’t wait for exam results to come out in January to see how he has done.

Cameron participated in a Xmas decoration swap and received a neat little felt decorated Xmas tree from his partner.  Cameron made some little cardboard birds to hang on the tree to send.  He had lots of fun making them and had to make extra for our tree too :-)

Sorry

I’d like to sit down and write a post, I even have pics to share, but I just can’t find the time right now.  I’ll be back when I can think straight again :-)   It may be a few weeks. Bear with me.

The view from here :-)

Bout time I posted pics of the reason we moved the house (besides the piles being shot).

The panoramic view from our deck (which used to be about 5 metres from the main highway).

I’m so pleased with the new deck!  Ian has done a great job.  We just need to get the timber to finish the strip where it meets the house.

The new small front porch is great too :-)

Better go, otherwise the boy will be late for school.

For a Trekkie fan…

I’m making a custom quilt for a friend.  Her son is a Star Trek fan.  I was surprised to find there is no Star Trek quilt fabric available (except one very ugly, overpriced retro piece on Ebay) so I had to make up some appliques for the quilt blocks.  I have to say I’ve surprised even myself with the coolness of these blocks.  I think it’s going to be an AWESOME quilt.

I particularly like the Mr Spock and Mr Sulu blocks.

The symbols in the next row are the Klingon insignia, Ferengi insignia and the Star Fleet insignia.

We are not big on Star Trek here, being more Star Wars fans, but now the boys are interested in watching some.  I guess it’s off the DVD shop I go :-)

Live long and Prosper!
