Pinky Bunny

I’ve been pattern tester for the lovely Natasha over at Hanies.  Here’s what I made, he’s called Pinky.

Cute??  His body is  bag for storing lovely Easter goodies :-)   I let Cam take him to bed, but the big kids were fighting over him too, they love anything made with minky fabric.

Up to date

All right then.  I did some sewing yesterday, and sat down to work last night and I’m pleased to say that all my swaps in progress are finally up to date.  The “Wish it were spring” fat quarter swap, the Sew Mama Sew fat quarter swap, and the two TNN keychain swaps.  I even got them all posted today.  Now I can just sit back and wait to receive my share back :-)

Here’s a pic of some things included in those swaps.

More card wallets.  They won’t be the last I make either, Matt has asked for one, Lilly too, and Nathan could sure use something for his school timetable (he’s already had two go through the wash).  I need to make some more pincushions though for the Scouts table at the next Martinborough Fair, apparently the last ones I made sold like hotcakes, so they’ve asked if I will make some more.  I don’t mind even though the kids aren’t doing Scouts this year.  I’m considering it a thank you for all the times the kids got to go camping (without me) .

Thanks for all your lovely condonlences about my quilt.  I didn’t have a drink, or chocolate, and buying fabric would have been nice, but Idon’t think Ian would have been impressed with the Visa bill :-(    Here’s a pic of how it looks now.  Yes I know it looks nice and crinky, but the wool batting has bearded all through the cotton, so no it can’t be recovered or used as a wallhanging.

Bad, bad, bad!

Not a good start to the day. I finished handsewing the binding on the heart quilt last night, and put the quilt in the washing machine for a wash. I forgot that my front loader has a hate/hate relationship with wool. I forgot that I had used wool batting :-) Think 70% shrinkage / felted wool. Dead :-( I killed it. Going off to cry now. F*#@. !!!!!

A new quilt top

well almost :-) I need to get some fabric for the border (and some batting and backing fabric), but it went from this……………

sdc10515

to this, is just 2 hours.

It’s not really anywhere near finished, as I have some special plans for this quilt top.  I am pleased to have used my custom fabric and all the other fabrics used were in my stash.

Cam and I went to the local church fair yesterday, in the pouring rain.  They have a great stall of sewing supplies, so i got some nice pieces of fabric for $1 a metre (flannel and t-shirting, not quilting fabric) and these really cool vintage buttons :-)

And last but not least, the Postie brought me nice things yesterday, admittedly not presents, they were things I had bought, but better than bills.  2 new hand knitted woollen singlets for Cam, he wears these over a long sleeve top in winter, and 3 new cotton dishcloths for me. I paid for the singlets, but am swapping the dishcloths for some of my homemade jam.

Some small sewing

I’ve seen these cool tea wallets on heaps of blogs, so I had a go (mines a card wallet though) using this tute.  Easy and clear instructions.  About as much sewing as I’ve had time for, due to the sudden halt to Cam’s day sleeps :-(

I can see a few more of these being made sometime soon.

I hope to get some sewing time in on the weekend, as I’ve had some really great ideas for my Spoonflower quilt.

I did a bit of fabric shopping today.  I had signed myself up for two lots of swaps, Darci’s “Wish it were spring” fat quarter swap (twice) and Sew Mama Sew’s fat quarter swap.  For Darci’s swap I’m sending to the USA for both swaps, so I’ve gone for New Zealand fabrics, with the spring theme, and for the Sew Mama Sew swap I have four NZer’s to send to (1 FQ each), so I just picked out some fabric I really liked.  I just need to add a little something to my overseas parcels and they will be in the post next week.  I’ll add pics later, after they have been received.

I made more sauce yesterday, here’s how yummy my tomatoes looked before I roasted them :-)

Bored yet?

I wanted to start a new quilt today, but I wasn’t having any luck at all.  Cam hasn’t had an afternoon sleep since mid last week (grrrrrr), and it was like Old Mother Hubbards cupboard here, so my afternoon was spent filling the pantry.  Ginger Oaty slice, American Brownie and a loaf of bread.  Jelly for the kids to eat tomorrow and batch number 3 of roasted tomato sauce (oh and grating zucchini to freeze for use later in the year).  Anyone know what to do with heaps of cucumbers?

So the quilt has to wait.  I had a bit of a brainwave as to what to make with my fabric from Spoonflower.  Disappointed as I am with it, I can’t afford not to use it.  So I’ll be making a bit of an improv quilt, no pattern, just wing it.  I may get some time to work on it, depends if we go to Playcentre or not.

I’m thinking of staying home as Cam is getting the “toilet training” thing and has been using the potty if he hasn’t got a nappy on, so it might be a good idea to stay home for a couple of days and try not to use any nappies unless he’s in bed.

I’ve been hand sewing down the binding on the hearts baby quilt, I’m halfway through, I found i had about 5 metres of chocolate binding left over from making Matt’s quilt, so I’ve used that. Nice combo pink and brown.

Baby Quilt

Here’s what I’ve been working on for the last couple of days. No binding yet but the quilting is done. I wanted to quilt hearts on it, but it wasn’t working out, so I unpicked what i had done and just did all over stippling in pink variegated thread.  Turned out okay.  Inspired by this one. No intended recipient for this, just made it because I felt like it :-)

Anyone want to swap???

I’d like to swap this book (new and unused)

sdc104101

for either this or this :-)  I know I could order these direct, but the big companies aren’t very flexible with postage (which is sooo expensive) and I don’t want to pay more than the cost of the fabric to get it shipped when I know that either of these items would fit in an A4 envelope and be approx $5 US to post, not the $12.50 they want to charge me :-( (which is the flat rate minimum shipping). Any takers?
